Every Transformers film has featured real life vehicles "standing in" for the alt-modes of the Autobots and Decepticons. Sometimes the vehicles are stock vehicles, other times they are high end versions of cars not yet on the market. Other times the movies rely on customized vehicles. When it came time for a new Optimus Prime truck to be made, the folks at Twin Custom Trucks and Hot Rods were brought in. Twin Custom Trucks and Hot Rods had previously worked on the truck used as Optimus Prime in Age of Extinction and The Last Knight, but this was a special challenge. Thanks to a post on their Faceobok page, we now have a behind the scenes look at the creation of this truck. From their page:
"Now showing at your nearest theater. We were fortunate enough to build the lead character Optimus Prime again. We originally built the Western Star based Optimus Prime used in both T4 and T5 years ago. So this time around, the story line has changed enough that we took a ride in the DeLorean back to when Optimus Prime was actually based on a cab over design. Once again Daimler inlisted the services of Twins Custom Coaches to create the studio’s vision on the leader of the Autobots, Optimus Prime."
