Paramount Animation was in attendance at Cinemacon 2023 where the cast for the upcoming animated Transformers film was announced! Here are the cast members revealed so far:
- Chris Hemsworth: Optimus Prime
- Bryan Tyree Henry: Megatron
- Scarlett Johansson: Elita
- Keegan-Michael Key: Bumblebee
- Laurence Fishburne: Alpha Trion
Additionally Deadline reports that Jon Hamm will be playing Sentinel Prime.
The film focuses on the era before the Autobot/Decepticon war when Optimus Prime and Megatron were still friends. Of course, this would end and lead to a war that would last for ages and become the stuff of legend.
The film is written by Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari. The film is produced by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Don Murphy, Tom DeSanto, Michael Bay, Mark Vahradian and Aaron Dem. Executive producers are Steven Spielberg, Brian Goldner, Brian Oliver, Bradley J. Fischer and Valerii An.
Unfortunately, during the CinemaCon presentation Ramsey Naito, the President of Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon Animation made the erroneous statement that "I’m so excited and proud to be working with Hasbro and eOne to bring the first animated Transformers movie to theaters for a never-before-told story." which is of course incorrect. The first animated theatrical Transformers film was the 1986 The Transformers: The Movie film and many years later the 1999 Beast Wars Special Super Lifeform Transformers film was shown in theaters in Japan. It is possible Naito meant this is the first theatrical Transformers film by Paramount Animation and Nickelodeon, but this statement has caused a stir online by fans who were quick to point out animated Transformers films have graced the big screen before.
