Sometimes Transformers news seems to come out of left field, and today's news from Takara Tomy is one of those instances. Takara Tomy Mall has announced that in 2023 it will release two crossover Transformers figures with the Canon camera brand. The characters represented will be Optimus Prime and (naturally) Reflector. Both will transform into non-working replicas (at 80% size) of real life Canon cameras, truly embodying the spirit of early G1 Transformers figures while also being kind of goofy at the same time.
Each figure is priced on Takara Tomy Mall's site at 19,800 Yen (about $149.75 USD) with a release date of late February 2023. While these are TT Mall exclusives, BWTF Sponsor BigBadToyStore does currently have Optimus Prime up for preorder. For now, enjoy the product info, video and images below:
Canon/TRANSFORMERS Optimus Prime R5
In the Transformers' annual collaboration project, a product that transforms into a robot from the mirrorless camera "EOS R5" released by Canon Inc. has appeared. The camera state "EOS R5 mode" is reproduced at 80% scale of the actual camera, and the camera body and lens can be removed like the actual camera. Although it is a toy product that cannot be photographed, it has a finish that reproduces the details of the main body design. In addition, in the robot mode "Optimus Prime R5" state, it has a symbolic design with a lens on the chest, and the arms are red and the legs are blue, which is the original color of "Optimus Prime". Matrix and EOS R5 handheld (mini EOS R5) are included, which is proof of the leader, and can be held in your hand.
