In 2018, Toys 'R' Us decided to close all its locations in the United States. Despite attempts to revive the brand, the Covid pandemic shut down the last two stores in early 2021. Then, in late 2021 Toys 'R' Us did two things: they opened up a new location inside the American Dream Mall (you can see my tour here) and they opened up several holiday locations as sections inside Macy's stores. Those sections wound down after a while and the fate of the brand seemed up in the air again.
Today, in a surprise announcement Toys 'R' Us has revealed they will be opening up Toys 'R' Us sections across the country in Macy's stores! According to their site:
By mid-October we’ll be in every Macy’s - that means hundreds of locations! We’re also bringing more than 10 flagship stores to life in major U.S. cities including Atlanta, Chicago, Honolulu, Houston, Los Angeles, Miami, New York, and San Francisco.
More news on this as it is released, but for those who visited the Macy's shops during the holidays you have already seen a version of what is to come. Hopefully these will be even bigger!
