Several Entertainment News outlets including Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and AV Club are reporting that Steven Caple Jr. is being sought by Paramount Pictures to direct the next live action Transformers film. Negotiations are not complete at this time, but Caple is the front runner. This follows Paramount's new path for the franchise which took a turn with 2018's Bumblebee Movie which was the first without Michael Bay in the Director's Chair. It was instead directed by Travis Knight, known for movies such as Kubo and the Two Strings.
Caple's biggest project to date has been Creed II, a spin-off from the classic Rocky franchise. He is represented by WME and Unittled Entertainment.
The Transformers film franchise has been one of Paramount's biggest hits over the last thirteen years, so it is no surprise they would want to continue the series. For fans of live action Transformers films, this is great news as it shows the studio is actively working on the franchise, even if it is at a slower pace than in the past.
