Background:
In 2026 Hasbro launched a new sub-line of figures under the banner "Prime Changers". These were announced back in January 2026 and started hitting shelves around end of February with the release of Bumblebee and Optimus Prime. Megatron would follow in March. The term "Prime Changers" is not new. It was used in the Transformers One toy line for figures like Sentinel Prime. These were figures that were slightly smaller than most Generations Deluxe Class figures but featured multi-step transformations with simplified designs. The term as now become its own sub-line, sort of a descendent of the Authentics line but they are not limited to chains like Family Dollar and Dollar General.
Packaging:
The Prime Changers box is a rectangular box. Instead of the black background found on Generations and Studio Series packaging, these have a white, blue and grey background, similar to the Cyberworld and Authentics boxes. the front features a large window in the middle, showing off the figure but it lacks the plastic windows which made their return last year. To the left is the "More than Meets the Eye" phrase in a circle around an Autobot symbol. Under that are icons and lettering similar to those seen on Age of the Primes packaging saying "2 in 1", calling out a 16 step transformation and an age recommendation of 6+ (which is two years less than the 8+ from Generations and Studio Series). To the right is Megatron's "Evergreen" artwork in robot mode with new artwork of the tank mode. Underneath that is the horizontal "Transformers" logo and his name under that. The actual term "Prime Changers" does actually appear on the box on the sides in tiny letters. That is likely meant to denote his "class" of figure, but in the official product information "Prime Changers" also appears to be called out as the name of the sub-line.
The back of the box features Megatron in both modes calling out his 16 step transformation. Under that is legal information in multiple languages along with the "Authentic/More than Meets the Eye" Autobot symbol circle seen on current Transformers packaging.
Accessories:
Megatron includes several accessories, which is a really nice way to add value to this figure. Here's a rundown:
- Fusion Cannon: The "Evergreen" Megatron model reworked Megatron's classic Fusion cannon from having mostly round parts to having a more mechanical looking and angled rear section leading to a curved cannon barrel. This fusion Cannon represents that design. The cannon features a piece on top that slides forward to reveal a smaller barrel extending out of the larger barrel. This is used for the tank mode. This piece is made of silver plastic with black paint.
- Rocket Pods: One of the key elements of Megatron's "Evergreen" design are rocket pods attached to his legs in robot mode (which wind up on the sides of his tank mode). On this figure these pods are separate accessories, each featuring a roughly rectangular shape with a front that features several circles inside representing individual rockets. This piece features a 5mm peg to attach to Megatron and of course you can use them on other figures with 5mm ports. They are made of silver plastic with red painted on front.
- Energon Mace: Going all the way back to the G1 cartoon, Megatron could retract his hand and reveal an Energon Mace weapon attached to his wrist. This accessory represents that weapon as a handheld weapon. There is a section representing the "chain" and the end is a ball with spikes. This is made of translucent purple plastic. However, the plastic is very soft. If you shake it a bit the chain section flops around. If you just have it stored away I think (short term) it should be fine, but if you have Megatron displayed holding it, I could see it eventually drooping down. This piece features a 5mm peg at the bottom and a small tab on the side for storage in vehicle mode.
- Blast Effect: There is a Blast Effect representing layers of firepower in one blast. This attaches to the end of his Fusion Cannon. This piece is made of the same rubbery translucent purple plastic as the Mace weapon.

Robot Mode:
Around the 2010's, Hasbro began utilizing a set of standardized designs for key Transformers characters. These generic representations of the characters were called "Evergreen" designs and would be seen on licensed products from toys to party supplies. One of these "Evergreen" designs was a G1-esque Megatron who transformed into a tank. This design has been made into toys by Hasbro before including the Alpha and Bravo class Megatron figures from the Authentics sub-line. You can see images of the official Hasbro artwork for Megatron's "Evergreen" model here and here on the TFWiki. This is the first figure being made in this particular scale using the "Evergreen" design.
For those wondering about scale, this figure is about 5 inches (roughly 12.5 cm) tall. This is slightly smaller than your typical Generations Deluxe Class figure but roughly the same scale as the Deluxe Class from Cyberverse (such as Optimus Prime). Fortunately, he is priced accordingly. I purchased this from Amazon for $21.99 USD while Generations Deluxes are currently priced at $27.99 USD.
Megatron's sculpt is on point. He looks fantastic. Many of the elements of the "Evergreen" design are found on this figure. This includes:
- The head sculpt is very much a classic G1 Megatron head design with a helmet section that has a line in the middle that angles out to the sides and down to sections that extend to the sides of his face. His face has a pronounced "brow" over the eyes and a mean expression overall.
- The chest features the classic rectangular shape, but the top section is slightly indented, making it almost look like he is wearing armor that "hooks" over his shoulders.
- The mid-body section features a "control panel" of tech details in the middle including two circles. Flanking that are a series of horizontal lines.
- The legs have the rocket pods attached.
There are some changes to the design for this figure. His shoulders angle upward instead of being more rectangular and blocky and his waist section is missing two distinct raised circles seen on the "Evergreen" Megatron artwork. Also, his feet are not quite angled the same way as the artwork. That said, I'm not bothered by any of this. The Evergreen design is nice, but the figure still has to transform so some practical changes were made. I think this figure looks fantastic and I'm very happy with the sculpt. That said, some fans may not like the way his forearm armor wraps around the fists, but since they are still functional I don't have an issue with this given the price point.

Megatron is made of silver and black plastic, both classic colors associated with the character. Paint colors on this figure include red, white, yellow, black, silver and blue. His face is painted white with red eyes and black over his brow. Black is also used for the treads on the back of his lower legs. The mid-body has red outlining the mid-body area with silver, yellow, red and blue painting the "control panel" in that section. Finally, his rocket pods of course have red in front. The colors really pop against the silver plastic and I love how intricate some of the deco is on the head and mid-body area. The final touch is a purple Decepticon symbol in the center of his chest.
There are twenty four points of articulation on this figure. This includes five in each arm and six in each leg (which includes ankle tilts!). I am being generous here by including the ability of the fists to move since they have the forearm armor wrapping around them. He has 5mm ports on his right firearm for the Fusion Cannon, in the fists and on the sides of his lower legs. I really dig the articulation on this figure. He can strike a lot of cool poses. Finally, there is a port on the back of the figure that allows you to attach it to a Tamashii Nations style stand. It's nice to see this feature on a figure that isn't part of the Generations subline.
Transformation to Vehicle Mode:
- Detach the accessories and set them aside for now.
- Straighten out the arms and legs.
- Swing the back panel out and up over the head.
- Swing the Fusion Cannon attachment point on the right arm to the side.
- Connect the Fusion Cannon to the right arm.
- Swing the arms back and connect the tabs on the insides of the forearms to the corresponding slots on the Fusion Cannon.
- Swing the inside of each lower leg out.
- Swing the feet over the back of the knee sections.
- Rotate the legs around on the lower half of the thighs.
- Swing the leg panels forward to form the sides of the tank.
- Use the tabs on the sides of the back panel to connect to the corresponding slots on the tread panels in front of the tank.
- Swing down the heel pieces on the sides.
- Rotate the panels on the sides forward and use the tabs to connect them to the slots on the tread sections.
- Slide the silver part of the Fusion Cannon forward to extend the barrel.
- Attach the Rocket Pods to the sides.
- The Blast Effect can attach to the back of the Fusion Cannon.
- Attach the Mace to the vertical slot on the side of the turret.

Vehicle Mode:
Megatron's tank mode is a futuristic looking tank (or if you prefer, Cybertronian). I love the angled design of the front end, the front of the turret and some of the armor panels on the sides. It looks very cool. Like the robot mode, there are a lot of cool sculpted details on the tank. This includes rectangles with an "X" shape in them which indicate armored areas. There are circles on the sides of the tread sections, seemingly indicating where there may be wheels. The front tread sections also have headlights sculpted on to them and the "heel" pieces from the feet seem to form bars that a driver could grip on to. The small barrel at the end of the Fusion Cannon is a tad tiny but I appreciate the feature existing at all.
The same colors from the robot mode carry over here. There is not a lot of paint detail, and that is one of the weaknesses of this form. If some of these details had been painted such as the headlights it would look incredible. As it stands, it looks good but not amazing color-wise.
The tank has four wheels on the bottom, one for each section of the treads. If you pull back the end of the tank barrel you can attach the Blast Effect, which looks really cool. And of course, if you want to attach different weapons, just take out the Rocket Pods and put another weapon with a 5mm peg in their place.
Final Thoughts:
This is a really cool figure. Initial stock photos had me interested for sure, but I'm so happy the reality lived up to my expectations. He looks great, has a good robot mode deco and great articulation. If you just want a Megatron to tinker with in your collection, this guy does the trick. Recommended!
Pros:
- Excellent sculpt, especially in robot mode.
- Good deco in robot mode.
- A nice amount of accessories given the price point.
- Good articulation.
- Intuitive transformation.
Cons:
- I worry about how rubbery the Mace weapon is. I recommend treating it with care.
- The hands being partly covered by the forearm armor is less than ideal.
- Could use a bit more deco in vehicle mode.
