Background
Cyberworld is a Transformers series that borrows heavily from elements of the past and puts them in an unusual setting. In the case of character designs, Cyberworld has both leaned heavily into G1 and borrowed from other inspirations. One of these designs is Chop Shop, who can best be described as a combination of influences. First there is the Beast Wars Insecticon figure. Then the colors found on Energon Insecticon. Finally he also uses the colors from Barrage and Chop Shop's name (both characters appeared in a Legacy multi-pack in 2024). That makes this figure a really interesting one as you usually do not see a line of Transformers aimed at younger fans digging so deep into older Transformers lore for references. This figure was part of the "Armored Cyber Changer" assortment featuring 4 inch (about 10 cm) figures with a large weapon.

Packaging
Chop Shop is packaged in an open box, similar in style to what past toy lines like Cyberverse have used. The box is mostly white with red and white text. The figure is in robot mode and attached to the cardboard by rubber ties. The section in front of the figure features a horizontal "Transformers" logo (a big change from the past decade or so) along with the "Cyberworld" logo. To the right is artwork of Chop Shop in beast mode. Behind the figure to the right is artwork of him in robot mode. To the left are a series of symbols showing Chop Shop having 4 transformation steps and the "6+" age recommendation under it. It also calls out his "Armor Up" ability, which is really just him wielding a transforming weapon. The back features Chop Shop in both modes with a symbol showing a rocky landscape. It calls out his 4 step transformation. To the right is a call out for his weapon's transformation. Below that is a cross sell for Optimus Prime, Elita-1 and Bumblebee. Below that is a ton of legal information in multiple languages.
Accessories
Chop Shop includes two accessories. One is his primary "Armor Up" weapon and the other is more of an extra.
- Pincer Hammer: The "Pincer Hammer" is a really interesting weapon. It features a handle leading up to a huge sledgehammer like top section. On one side of the head are two giant pincer claws. If you pull the handle down, the pincers swing out and a blade extends out from the top of the hammer. The weapon has three 5mm pegs, one at the bottom, one set at a right angle from the first and another on the actual hammer head itself. These allow you to attach the weapon to Chop Shop in a variety of ways. He can hold this as a melee weapon or if you use a different peg it almost looks like some type of giant blaster weapon. This weapon is made up of orange, yellow and neon green plastic (all colors found on Chop Shop himself).
- Mandibles:
The other accessory is a simple one featuring two long mandibles. These are reminiscent of those seen on G1 Chop Shop and Beast Wars Insecticon. They even feature points at the end that look like the were inspired by those on G1 era Shrapnel, adding another bit of G1 influence to the figure. This piece is just one solid piece with a 5mm peg at the back. This piece is made of neon green plastic with no paint.
Technically the insect legs attached to his robot legs can detach and feature 5mm pegs. I don't consider them accessories but I can see them being used as hand held weapons of some sort.

Robot Mode
Clearly when the designers were working on Chop Shop's design, they had Beast Wars on the brain. Except for some key parts, almost every aspect of this sculpt is based on Beast Wars Insecticon's design. The big giveaway is his head sculpt, which is a modern take on Insecticon's distinct look with bug ayes, fierce looking teeth showing and parts of the "helmet" section of the head sticking up. His arms and legs have a curved, almost organic looking design that is inspired directly from the techno-organic nature of the Beast Wars figures. Like Insecticon, his arms have insect arms on the sides and the area between the legs feature a series of horizontal indentations that come right from Beast Wars Insecticon. This homage continues with his legs, which share much of the same details as his Beast Wars predecessor including the rectangular and flat shape of his feet. I'm a huge Beast Wars fan so to me this is a beautiful sculpt that pays homage to a fairly obscure figure and character.
Where the design of the figure differs from Insecticon is around the chest. This chest is designed to hold his mandible accessory sticking out in front instead of folding against the body. It also features some angled designs that do not appear on Insecticon.

Chop Shop is made up of green, neon green, yellow and orange plastic. The two main inspirations for these colors appear to be Barrage and Energon Insecticon, both of whom featured plenty of green and yellow colors. Paint colors include yellow, orange, red and silver, most of which are focused around the head area. These colors are bright and really engage the eye and I dig them. The neon green is a bit "much" but it serves the purpose of helping this figure stand out in a sea of action figures in the toy aisles.
There are six points of articulation on this figure: the shoulders, hips and knees. This is about right for this class of figure. Cyberworld is not known for its articulation. There are eight 5mm ports on this figure. The fists, the chest, three on the back and the two on the sides of the lower legs where the insect legs attach. The joints are all really nice and stiff, thank goodness because he has to hold the weight of his Pincer Hammer up and sometimes you need to do some tricky balancing to get it to work.
Transformation to Beast Mode
- Detach the handheld accessory and set it aside for now.
- Straighten out the arms and legs.
- Push the lower legs together.
- Be sure the mandibles are attached as they help with the transformation.
- Push the chest/mandible section up and the figure will largely "auto-transform".
- Push the arms in on the sides.
- The weapon can be attached to the top of the beetle mode.

Beast Mode
Chop Shop's beast mode is more unique to the character than the robot mode. Sure, it's a beetle like Barrage and Energon Insecticon so there are some similarities such as the huge mandibles in front and creepy eyes, but overall this design looks like a fully mechanical beetle, more in line with a G1 Insecticon. It even features details like vents on the sides and some armor paneling lines running down the back. I really like the look of this beast mode and would not mind seeing it in traditional purple and black Insecticon sub-group colors.
All the colors from the robot mode carry over here, with orange on the insect eyes and yellow on the back. He looks great and has an almost G1 feel to him in this mode.
There is not much articulation to speak of in this mode, just the hind legs moving up and down. However, he does have six 5mm ports. One is reserved for the mandibles. Three are on top and two on the sides. Technically the ones on the sides are "available" in robot mode, but they're kind of in an awkward place in that form so I didn't count them there. Here, they make perfect sense. You can really load him up with weaponry if you'd like, hence the "Armor Up" category!
Final Thoughts
I think Chop Shop is fantastic. I'm a sucker for a Beast Wars homage but then tossing in aspects of Energon and G1 really just adds icing to the cake. If you're into the Cyberworld line at all, this figure is highly recommended!
Pros
- Awesome homages, especially to Beast Wars Insecticon.
- Nice, bright deco that nods to the past.
- Fun and simple "auto-transform" (which also nods to Beast Wars Insecticon).
- Fun and unusual "Pincer Hammer" weapon.
Cons
- I would have liked to see elbow articulation on the figure, though that might have prevented him from wielding the hammer weapon.
