Generation 2 comes to a close with the introduction of the highly articulated Cyberjets and the Go-Bots, Hot Wheels sized vehicles that transform. Several old characters receive new forms including Jetfire, Optimus Prime and Frenzy.

Familiar faces return in the form of the Aerialbots and Combaticons! Also introduced are the highly articulated Laser Rods and new versions of Optimus Prime and Megatron.

A whole new cast of characters is introduced into the Transformers universe including color change Transformers and others whose engines become their weapons. The trend of European exclusive figures continues with the likes of Pyro and Clench.

Generation 2 begins, largely focusing on redecos and retools of pre-existing figures.  Meanwhile in other parts of the world some previous late-era G1 figures are repurposed as G2 while some former Japanese exclusive figures are given new decos, accessories and identities.

Transformers returned to the US in 1992 with a full relaunch involving old and new characters. Set in a violent and dangerous time in Transformers history, the line introduced new toy technologies and innovative play that would carry over to future Transformers lines for years to come.
